Public Protection

Public safety services in De Soto are provided through a combination of contracted partners, districts, and county services. This collaborative approach allows the City to ensure residents receive professional, well-resourced emergency services while maintaining local coordination and oversight.

While these organizations are not City departments, they serve the De Soto community through formal service agreements and work closely with City staff on emergency response, preparedness, and community safety.

Fire Protection – Northwest Consolidated Fire District

Fire protection and emergency response services for De Soto are provided by the Northwest Consolidated Fire District (NWCFD); this fire district serves approximately 10,000 people in De Soto and unincorporated Johnson County.

Fire Stations

  • Fire Station 11 | 9745 Kill Creek Road: Station #11 covers the central portion of the fire district and the old Sunflower Ammunition Plant.
  • Fire Station 12 | 29520 W 127th Street, Olathe, KS: Station #12 responds to calls for service and covers stations in other districts during high call volumes.
  • Fire Station 13 | 35050 W 99th Street: Station #13 provides coverage for most of the City of De Soto and the surrounding areas within the district, as well as houses the administration offices.

Law Enforcement – Johnson County Sheriff's Office

Law enforcement services in De Soto are provided by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office under contract with the City. Deputies assigned to the area work in coordination with City staff and other public safety partners to provide patrol, investigations, and emergency response.

Emergency Medical Services – Johnson County Med-ACT

Emergency medical services (ambulance and paramedic response) in De Soto are provided by Johnson County Med-ACT, the county’s accredited emergency medical service provider.

Med-ACT works closely with fire and law enforcement partners to deliver advanced life support, emergency medical transport, and coordinated response throughout the community.
