During the May 16th Council meeting, City Council approved an amendment to our policing contract with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.
What’s Changing? We're doubling our De Soto-dedicated patrol coverage! By August - for the remainder of 2024 - we will have two patrol units dedicated to De Soto for 40 hours each week.
Looking Ahead: We're also considering a multi-year contract to maintain this level of service.
As a result of the development agreement with Panasonic Energy, which includes $100,000 annually for policing and road maintenance, this increase in service will enhance the Sheriff’s Office’s ability to respond to calls and provide a continuous presence in De Soto - without a tax increase. Additionally, the added officer will give the community policing officer more time to engage with the community.
