2014 State of the City

Coffee with the Mayor

Rieke Lake Park Development

Mayor Maniez present his 2015 State of the City speech on Thursday, February 12.  For a look at what he discussed please follow this link.

Mayor Tim Maniez will be at the De Soto Branch of the Johnson County Library at 10:30 a.m. Saturday March 28 for a Coffee with the Mayor.  Come and hear about projects and happenings in the City and let the mayor know what you are thinking.  If you are unable to make this coffee and would like to host one of your own, contact Mayor Tim Maniez at 913-636-6309 or City Administrator Cynthia Wagner at 913-586-5252.

465 acre Rieke Lake property located west of De Soto and north of K10 includes a 30 acre lake previously used for fishing as well as a mix of woodlands, forest and open areas.  A master plan for future development of the park includes potential amenities such as picnic shelters, restrooms, a natural amphitheater, wetlands with a boardwalk, tent camping sites, a fishing pier, a boat launch, a marina for pedal boats and canoes, a paved multi use trail, a hiking trail, playground, disc golf course, sand volleyball courts and sports practice fields.

We encourage all citizens to reach out to the JOCO Parks and Recreation with a letter in support for the development of Rieke Lake Park.  A sample letter may be found on the city’s website here.
